Ribbon cutting held for grand opening of Memorial High School
It was a packed house Monday evening as Wichita Falls ISD held a ribbon cutting ceremony to officially open up Memorial High School.
Memorial High School is home to the Mavericks and is located at 6600 Kell W. Blvd; it is one of the two new high schools built to replace Rider, Hirschi and Wichita Falls High Schools.
Although the 2024 school year started back on Thursday, Aug. 15, the official grand opening wasn't held until the next Monday.
The Memorial High School band performed a few songs while the cheerleaders and drill team entered the front foyer.
Dr. Donny Lee, WFISD superintendent, opened up the ceremony by welcoming all in attendance and introducing several special guest speakers, such as Wichita Falls City Mayor Tim Short, Senior Pastor Bob McCartney of the First Baptist Church of Wichita Falls, former WFISD School Board members, lead architects and even two current Memorial High students.
Members of the Gold Coat Ambassadors and WFISD board members stood alongside Lee as he cut the ribbon — officially announcing the grand opening of Memorial High School. Guests were then free to tour an open house of the school and get a first-hand look of the athletes during the "Meet the Mavs" event.
The next ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held 6 p.m. Thursday for Legacy High School.
