Richmond police investigating man's death after Sunday traffic accident
RICHMOND, Ind. — Richmond police are investigating a local man's death after a Sunday traffic accident.
Investigators said a northbound Dodge Caravan driven by 45-year-old Phillip Bailey was in the 300 block of North 20th Street about 8:40 a.m. when it left the road and struck guy wires from a utility pole before stopping.
The minivan had minor damage but emergency responders determined Bailey, still in the vehicle, was unresponsive.
Resuscitation efforts began at the scene and Bailey was taken by ambulance to Reid Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.
According to Adam Blanton, assistant chief of police, the incident is being reviewed by the Richmond Police Department's crash investigation team.
Initial indications are that Bailey suffered a medical incident before the Caravan left the roadway. There was no evidence to suggest drugs or alcohol were factors, according to a news release issued by Blanton, and the crash also does not appear to have been weather-related.
