Rise & Shine! Your Newport County guide for March 10

Rise & Shine! I’m Scott Barrett, digital editor for The Daily News, and today is March 10, the 69th day of the year — 296 days remain in 2022. On this day in 1978, the series “The Incredible Hulk,” starring Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno, made its debut on CBS. It enjoyed an 80-episde run over five seasons.

Here & Now

? The Newport St. Patrick’s Day Parade is marketed as a family-friendly event, but historically, parade day has drawn a high volume of arrests and citations. In 2019, the last time the parade was held in the city, Newport police made 64 arrests. The year prior, the department reported 85 arrests.

After two years of pent-up St. Patrick's Day parade energy, how do city and parade officials plan on managing that energy? They have a few ideas. Reporter Laura Damon has the story.

? Speaking of parade day, it tends to be a long one for already overworked restaurant employees. So take it easy on them come Saturday, writes Daily News food colunist Dan Lederer. Read his column here.

? Think you have the look of someone from a century ago? A casting company is seeking extras to appear in the second season of the HBO drama series "The Gilded Age," which is set to return to Newport for filming. Learn more here.

? For the first time since the 1981 season, the Tiverton High School football team will have a head coach not named Bob Murray. Meet Dillon Sheridan, the man tasked with replacing a legend. Read more here.

? Middletown is in the process of developing up to 75 affordable housing units at former schools. An update on the projects was given during Monday's meeting of the Town Council. Get the rundown from Laura Damon here.

? Parade Magazine, with the help of local lifestyle expert Andrea McHugh, compiled a list of the "16 best restaurants in Newport, Rhode Island." Check it out here

? The Providence College men's basketball team opens Big East tournament play today at noon against Butler at Madison Square Garden. Check out 10 things to know about this year's Friars team here.

? Back in November, the Portsmouth Planning Board denied a proposal that would put a solar development on West Main Road near Union Street. That decision is being appealed and is scheduled to be heard tonight. Find the agenda below.

? From the inbox: According to a recent study, Rhode Island workers rank among the best paid in the U.S., coming in at No. 10. Connecticut holds down the top spot, while Mississippi is last. Find the state-by-state breakdown and other tidbits here.

? Reports are the roads are pretty slick out there this morning. Give yourself plenty of time and drive slowly and safety.
