? There are currently more than 100 students on Aquidneck Island experiencing homelessness, an issue partially driven by the housing crisis.
"The families are just between a rock and a hard place in finding long-term, stable housing," said Chris Ashley, director of teaching and learning for the Newport School District.

The Portsmouth Community Food Bank at the St. John’s Lodge is running very short on goods. Among the items needed are canned baked beans, canned chicken, soups, pasta sauce, RiceARoni, instant mashed potatoes, canned pasta meals, cereal, oatmeal, tea, juice boxes, Pop Tarts, individual bags of cookies or crackers, Hamburger or Tuna Helper, canned fruit and apple sauce.
Paper bags with handles also are needed. The food bank accepts donations Wednesdays and Fridays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Learn more here.
