Rosen campaign hits Brown on abortion in new Nevada ad
Sen. Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) slammed her Republican opponent, Sam Brown, in a new ad that says he wants to “take away abortion rights.”
“He thinks he can fool us. But MAGA extremist Sam Brown has been pushing to ban abortion for years,” says the ad, titled “Caught on Tape.”
In 2014, Brown supported a Texas law that banned abortion after 20 weeks without exceptions, but according to his campaign website, he is now “pro-life, with exceptions for the tragic cases of rape, incest and the life of the mother.”
“As a U.S. Senator, I will not vote to overturn the decision of Nevadans — I will not support a national abortion ban. I will oppose any bill that pushes for federal funding of abortion, late term abortions, or abortion without parental notification. And I will support federal judges who understand the importance of protecting life,” Brown says on the website.
The ad goes on to attack Brown for allegedly saying abortion should be banned without exceptions for rape or incest, citing a 2023 article from HuffPost.
Brown’s campaign has tried to distance him from the claims and alleged a staffer was responsible for partially filling out a questionnaire in which the Republican candidate said abortion should be allowed when the mother’s life is at risk, according to an article from late last year in the Nevada Independent.
“The only time we hear from Jacky Rosen is when she’s busy telling despicable lies to scare Nevadans and distract them from the fact that she has destroyed our state economy and regularly votes to hurt working families,” said Raegan Lehman, the communications director for the Brown campaign.
Abortion has been a focal point nationally in this year’s race, with Vice President Harris making the issue a tentpole of her campaign, while President Trump touts his responsibility in nominating the justices who helped overturn Roe v. Wade.
A KFF poll released earlier this month showed 61 percent of voters think November’s presidential election will have a “major” impact on abortion access, though more people said they care about the economy and inflation than abortion or any other individual health issue, The Hill reported.
Polling data from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ shows Rosen leading Brown 48.5 percent to 39.7 percent in Nevada.
