Saint Ignatius High School’s Anthony Rubino charged with domestic violence, suspended

AVON LAKE, Ohio (WJW) — Saint Ignatius High School administrators have suspended Anthony Rubino, the school’s director of strength and conditioning, while his criminal case is being prosecuted.

Rubino, 38, of Cleveland, was arrested on Aug. 4, accused of throwing his daughter to the ground on Aug. 3 at a home along Electric Boulevard in Avon Lake, according to an arrest warrant obtained by FOX 8 News.

Rubino is now facing first-degree misdemeanor charges of domestic violence and endangering children, Avon Lake Municipal Court records show.

The school learned of the alleged offense the following day and immediately suspended him, according to a statement provided by a spokesperson.

“These allegations are in direct conflict with the values of our school, our faculty and of the entire Saint Ignatius High School community,” President Rev. Raymond Guiao is quoted in the statement. “We respect the legal process and will cooperate fully with authorities as they conduct their investigation. We will act quickly and decisively once we learn the outcome of the investigation but until that time, and in abundance of caution, Mr. Rubino will remain on suspension.”

The school’s athletics department is now “working to provide the resources needed for our student-athletes” in his absence, reads the statement.

Rubino pleaded not guilty and was handed a $2,500 personal recognizance bond at his Aug. 5 arraignment, court records show. A temporary protection order has been established.

He’s due back in court on Aug. 29.
