Salem SWAT team home search leads to alleged bank robber’s arrest

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A Salem man was arrested by a SWAT team for allegedly robbing a bank late Friday afternoon.

Just before 4 p.m., officers responded to the Washington Federal Bank at 2955 Broadway Street Northeast.

Employees had reported a man – identified by police as 63-year-old Bernardino Muniz – threatened a bank teller at gunpoint, demanding money.

After the teller gave him the money, the man left the scene in a vehicle, officials said.

At around 9:30 p.m., Muniz was arrested at his home after a SWAT team search recovered evidence of the robbery.

Officials say Muniz was lodged in the Marion County Jail and is facing charges of first-degree robbery.
