On April 24, 2024, Ashlee Nicole Scott, of Salisbury, Maryland, was sentenced by a jury in the Circuit Court for Wicomico County for attempted murder, of which she was convicted on Aug. 20, 2023.

Following a three-day jury trial, Scott was convicted of attempted murder in the first degree, attempted murder in the second degree, attempted armed robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery, four counts of first degree assault, firearm use in the commission of a crime of violence, illegal possession of a regulated firearm and related charges.

The Honorable Kathleen L. Beckstead, chief judge of the Circuit Court of Wicomico County, presided over the trial, and postponed sentencing for the completion of a pre-sentencing investigation, according to an Office of the State's Attorney for Wicomico County news release.

CRIME: Fourth man associated with Salisbury ministry faces child sex abuse charges

Original incident involved robbery during backyard barbecue

On Aug. 20, 2023, while the victim and his friends were enjoying a backyard barbecue, Scott, along with four co-conspirators, robbed them at gunpoint. When the victim turned to flee from the assailants, he was shot in the back of the neck, paralyzing him, the release stated.

“The jury had a difficult case before it and diligently considered all of the evidence. In this case, while Ms. Scott was not the shooter, this armed robbery and shooting would not have happened without her planning and participation. I am pleased with the jury’s verdict because it sends the message that in Wicomico County we will hold all members of a conspiracy responsible, particularly when it leads to such a tragic result," the release stated.

Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Dykes commended the members of the Salisbury Police Department for their work and quick action in the investigation, specifically thanking Detective Barkley for his diligence in and dedication to the investigation. Dykes also commended Senior Assistant State’s Attorney Lauren Bourdon for her advocacy in this case.
