Sarah Ferguson offered a rather cheery update on her health following not one but two cancer diagnoses in a year's time.
The Duchess of York was diagnosed with breast cancer in June 2023, and just seven months later, in January 2024, she revealed she was battling malignant melanoma.
Thankfully, the British royal appears to be in good spirits as she attended the amfAR Gala at the Cannes Film Festival on May 23, where she spoke to reporters about her experience and ongoing battle with skin cancer.
"This evening I am doing very well. I think that we've managed to get cancer in the right place rather than cancer ruling me. I've put cancer in the corner," she told People on Thursday.
The Duchess of York–who shares two daughters, Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie, with her ex-husband Prince Andrew–suggested that honest conversations about one's experience with cancer could be just as meaningful as regular check-ups and screenings.
"I think you always have to be aware. I think it's great to get checked for breast cancer [and] melanoma. I think you just have to be very candid about it," she said. "I think a lot of people get very frightened to talk about these things."
"I'm very happy with my mastectomy and my breasts and just to talk about it," the duchess added.
The 64-year-old also touched upon her relationships with King Charles as well as Kate Middleton, both of whom were diagnosed with unspecified types of cancer within weeks of each other earlier this year.
"I think family unity is key… I think the key to life is that we all support each other," she shared with the outlet. "And also forgiveness is a great thing. I think forgiveness of yourself, and forgiveness of others."
