Savoy progressing on new downtown plaza plans

SAVOY, Ill. (WCIA) — A plan to transform the heart of Savoy is gaining traction.

The Downtown Development Group sent out a public survey last month for feedback on the future plaza. They’ve been getting hundreds of responses and now they’re just a few steps away from bringing it to life.

Project leaders say there is still more negotiating that needs to happen with the village, but are confident they’ll get something squared away no later than December.

Sanghoon Kang, a resident of Savoy, said her family can’t wait to have some fun closer to home.

“Obviously, we have a Champaign downtown, pretty close,” she said. “But that’s still driving distance and we have to park in this little hassle. It’s literally walking distance from here. A sound sounded great, and obviously all of my family members, including my children, I was so excited about that.”

The downtown plaza will be located on West Old Church Street and North Dunlap Avenue.
