SCHS Column: Rosie returns, ready to retire to new and hopefully final home

Oct. 28—It's very few and far between when one of the sweet ones makes a return to the Stephens County Humane Society (SCHS) after adoption, and this week our avid readers will recognize The Banner's Take Out Tuesday guest.

Each week, The Banner works with SCHS as a Take Out Tuesday partner to help a dog in the shelter find their forever home. In March 2020, one Ms. Rose Marie, now known as Rosie, strut her way in our door at the old Banner office on Elm Street, waiting to be adored by all in our office.

The original column for the now Rosie, which published March 25, 2020, reported our (now) six-year-old Red Heeler mixed breed scored a sleep over with a family connected to workers at The Banner. That sleep over turned into a giant success — one very happy owner and one very happy Rosie, who became Baby.

She spent many happy months in a loving home, but unfortunately life happens and sometimes as pups age, so too do their owners. This is why our sweet Rosie, Baby, Rose Marie has returned to us once again.

And she can't stay in the shelter long. This pup is far too sweet. She served her previous owner well and no one involved wants to see this loving girl in a kennel for very long when she obviously is far more comfortable on a couch and in her owner's presence, whoever that next person may be.

Trust us, it won't take long for her to adjust to the right person.

When we first picked Rosie up, it seemed a little clear she knew the drill. Delicate as a rose, she found her way in the backseat and crossed her paws, ready to go on the adventure.

Before I knew it, Rosie exactly knew where we were going. When we pulled into the line at McDonald's, she grew excited for her cheeseburger treat.

Not only was this a memory Rosie had with us previously, but this Baby's old owner used to get her the same treats — two plain cheeseburgers.

It's not hard to tell if this pup is trained or just poised — it's both — and her whole demeanor and purpose is very lady like, which shows it. She responds to commands well, walks on a leash like a very good girl and enjoys the great outdoors and impressing others when taking her walks.

During our visit, we took a trip to R&S, and Rosie found some more familiar people. The staff recognized our guest almost immediately and the pup found some more treats in which to indulge.

Staff and friends in all places — ours and SCHS's — diligently began trying to find the perfect home. While Rosie will need a transitionary period and time to acclimate to her new surroundings in her home, she makes a good dog, and an even better dog in a home where she will receive a lot of love and attention.

Our previous guests still available for adoption include Gabby and Mr. Beans who both visited us within the last two weeks.

Two of the three previous guests have pet sponsors as Gabby and Rosie will have their fees waived for the right home when it is found.

To inquire about our previous guests, people can set up an appointment by calling 580-252-7387 between the hours of noon and 4 p.m. Weekends have extended hours until 6 p.m.
