Scottsboro residents voice concerns over neighborhood rezoning proposal
SCOTTSBORO, Ala. (WHNT) — The potential rezoning of a neighborhood in Jackson County to make way for a new development has people in Scottsboro worried.
Residents got the opportunity to voice their concerns letting city leaders know how they felt at a meeting Monday night.

If city leaders vote in favor of rezoning the Stonebridge community, people in Scottsboro say it will drastically change a neighborhood many have enjoyed living in for decades.
The rezoning would enable a 150-high-density single-family housing development to be built. Many of them made it clear that they strongly oppose this possibility.
Safety worries related to more traffic congestion, a decrease in their property values, and water drainage issues are all among the laundry list of concerns.
Some added how their area sees heavy flooding when it rains and the new homes they feel would only add to those problems.

The developer declined to comment and efforts to hear from city leaders were also unsuccessful.
Freddie Tidmore lives in the area and says many of them aren’t against growth. He compared the possible rezoning to changing the rules in the middle of a game adding it wasn’t what they signed up for when they moved there.
“We want to make sure that our neighborhood which a peaceful, beautiful neighborhood is left the way it is, it’s what we bought into which is an R1 neighborhood and now we don’t want see it change to a different type of neighborhood,” Tidmore explained. “We don’t see a need for those houses at this time.”
Officials will vote on the rezoning proposal during a city council meeting on Sept. 9.
