PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — First responders on the Oregon Coast have stayed occupied due to the sometimes troublesome combination of Fourth of July, high temperatures and fire season.

A single-story residence was fully engulfed in flames, prompting officials to close the highway in both directions for nearly three hours. Crews extinguished the blaze by 9:57 p.m.

There were no injuries reported, but the resident was displaced. The Red Cross assisted in coordinating care for the homeowner.

Investigators are still determining the source of the fire.

But after midnight on Friday, firefighters responded to another structure fire at 2481 Hwy 101. City officials said it was initially reported as an inflamed shed, but it was actually a commercial dumpster.

“Fire crews also extinguished multiple other small blazes throughout the holiday period due to dumpster and trash can fires and smoldering logs on the beach,” Seaside officials said in a release. “In addition to fires, rescue crews responded to four motor vehicle accidents and several medical calls, including falls and illness, during this period.”
