Selena Gomez issued an important political reminder to her fans with just a few days remaining until Election Day.

The Emilia Perez actress, who was promoting the new movie while attending the 28th American French Film Festival’s opening night in Hollywood, Calif., on Tuesday, Oct. 29, told Variety that she recently shared a video on Instagram Stories of herself dropping off her ballot early because she is aware that “people can sometimes forget that the one vote can change everything.”

A snapshot from the video that PopCrave later shared on X, formerly Twitter, showed the 32-year-old Only Murders in the Building star wearing an off-the-shoulder red sequin dress and matching heels as she leaned one arm against a ballot box. The matching red clutch she held in her right hand proudly displayed an “I voted” sticker as Gomez posed for the video.

On Tuesday, Nov. 5, voters will decide the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. The race between Vice President Kamala Harris, who is the Democratic nominee, and former President Donald Trump, who is the Republican Party’s nominee, remained close as of Thursday, Oct. 31, with less than one week left until Election Day.

Several celebrities have spoken out in recent weeks to explain to their fans who they are supporting in the election and why, especially in the wake of the derogatory remarks comedian Tony Hinchcliffe made about Puerto Rico, Latinos, Black people and Jewish people during a Trump campaign rally at New York City’s Madison Square Garden on Sunday, Oct. 27, which has inspired a new wave of reactions from many public figures—including Gomez—who denounced Hinchcliffe’s commentary.

While at Tuesday’s event, Gomez was asked directly about Hinchcliffe’s comments, which she said she “strongly disagreed” with. The former Disney Channel star later added, “I definitely want to stand by my people,” according to Variety.
