Tractor trailer crashes into residence in Genesee County
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A tractor trailer crashed into a residence in the Village of Oakfield early Tuesday morning, New York State Police announced.
At 1:27 a.m., police were dispatched to 11 Drake Street where they found a 2012 Western Star tractor trailer that crashed into the living room of the residence after traveling west bound.
The driver, David Baughman, 61, of North Tonawanda was extricated from the semi truck and taken to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries, police said. All four occupants of the residence were sleeping upstairs when the crash occurred and were able to safely exit without sustaining injuries, said New York State Trooper Mike Machniak.
“[They’re] extremely lucky in this instance. If this would have been earlier day, in the evening, people could have been in the living room of the house, but thankfully they were upstairs and they were sleeping,” Machniak said. “When I talked to the owner of the house, he stated he heard a big boom and it felt like the second floor of his house shifted down.”
NYS Police said Baughman fell asleep behind the wheel, struck a vehicle parked on the north side of Drake Street and continued into the house.
The incident remains under investigation.
