Sheboygan man shot by police after allegedly attacking an officer
SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WFRV) – Authorities in Sheboygan say one man is in the hospital after he was shot by police Sunday night while allegedly attacking an officer.
According to a release from the Sheboygan Police Department, officers responded at 6:09 p.m. to the 1500 block of North 13th Street for reports of a man waving around a gun.
Police say that when they arrived on the scene, they approached the 23-year-old Sheboygan man and while trying to identify the man, he reportedly lunged at one of the officers and took the gun from his duty belt.
A second officer on the scene then fired at the suspect who was taken into custody and provided medical aid by officers and by paramedics from the Sheboygan Fire Department.
Officials report that the 23-year-old suspect was then taken to a local hospital and stabilized before being flown by Flight For Life to a Green Bay area hospital for treatment and surgery.
Police say the officer who was initially assaulted by the suspect did receive minor injuries and no one else at the scene was injured.
Both officers involved in the incident, including the one who shot the suspect, a 29-year-old with two years of experience with the Department, have been placed on administrative leave.

The Sheboygan Police Department says the incident has since been turned over to the West Bend Police Department for investigation and there is no ongoing threat to the public.
