Sheila Keen Warren, who pleaded guilty in killer clown case, placed in Tallahassee-area prison

Three months after pleading guilty to second-degree murder in the 1990 killing of Marlene Warren, Sheila Keen Warren has been assigned to a prison near Tallahassee.

Keen Warren, who turned 60 on Sunday, is currently in custody of the Florida Department of Corrections at Gadsden Correctional Facility in Quincy, the seat of Gadsden County in Florida’s Panhandle, west of Tallahassee.

The Department of Corrections records show she is set to be released on Sept. 18, 2025, though the date can change.

Keen Warren pleaded guilty in April, two weeks before her trial was scheduled to start, in a case that has notoriously been known in South Florida as the killer clown case. On May 26, 1990, a person disguised head-to-toe in a clown costume arrived at a home in Wellington with flowers, balloons and a gun. The clown shot Marlene Warren in the face, who died days later.

At the time of her murder, Marlene Warren was married to Michael Warren, who Keen Warren later married. Keen Warren and Michael Warren worked together at a used car lot and were rumored to have had an affair before Marlene Warren’s murder. Keen Warren was arrested in 2017, found living under an alias with Michael Warren, her now husband, in Virginia.

Keen Warren pleaded guilty, though her attorney Greg Rosenfeld told reporters after the hearing that she, still, was not the killer in the costume that day. She left the Palm Beach County Jail in May and was taken to a DOC reception center before her placement in Quincy.

Keen Warren is currently held in medium custody, meaning she is eligible to be placed in a work camp, according to FDOC. She is eligible to receive visitors.

Created in 1995 for female inmates, Gadsden Correctional Facility was the first private-owned prison in Florida to contract with the Department of Corrections, according to the prison’s website. It is run by Management & Training Corporation, which operates two other facilities in Florida, the company’s website says.

Gadsden Correctional Facility offers programs in education, life skills, vocations, religion, substance abuse and therapy, MCT’s website said. The prison houses over 1,200 inmates of minimum, medium and community security levels.
