Sheryl Lee Ralph Shares Personal Footage of Hurricane Beryl

Sheryl Lee Ralph encouraged people who were in the path of Hurricane Beryl to stay inside as she shared personal footage of the storm’s arrival on social media.

In a post on X, formerly Twitter, the actress showed what Beryl’s approach looked like from the home where she was taking cover in Kingston, Jamaica. At least six deaths in the southeast Caribbean were linked to the hurricane ahead of its anticipated arrival in Jamaica on Wednesday, July 3, according to The Associated Press.

One night earlier in Jamaica’s capital, Ralph, 67, shared a video highlighting how “calm” the island nation seemed to be ahead of the storm’s arrival. The Broadway star urged others in the area to take precautions and abide by the curfew that authorities planned to implement starting Wednesday morning.

On Wednesday, the Abbott Elementary actress shared another video showing the Category 4 storm “starting” in Kingston. The video, which she filmed while standing in a protected porch area, showed gray skies and heavy rainfall while trees leaned as a result of the high winds. Ralph said she had already taken her outdoor furniture inside because “those things tend to take flight” before sharing another safety message with her followers.

“We are praying for safety for everybody,” Ralph said. "Stay off the roads, stay inside. Because I’m going all the way back inside now.”

Before the hurricane made landfall, the National Weather Service (NWS) said weather experts were expecting “devastating hurricane-force winds, life-threatening storm surge, and damaging waves” in Jamaica before the storm’s anticipated shift west toward the Cayman Islands.

Average wind speeds of 74 miles per hour were expected to continue Wednesday, with the storm’s maximum sustained wind speed estimated to be around 140 miles per hour, according to Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness. Officials expected the hurricane to dump 4 to 8 inches of rain on Jamaica throughout the day, the prime minister said in a Wednesday afternoon update posted on X.
