Solar factory expected to bring more than 900 jobs to Albuquerque
ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – A Delaware-based U.S. solar cell manufacturing company announced that it will build its new estimated 834,000-square-foot facility in Albuquerque. Ebron Solar will invest $942 million in New Mexico’s solar industry and create over 900 jobs with its expansion.
“We have succeeded in making New Mexico a global center for advanced energy manufacturing,” Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham stated in a news release. “Ebon Solar joins other leading companies in embracing New Mexico’s commitment to renewable energy, its talented, dedicated workforce, and the opportunities we provide for job training and tuition-free college.”

The new solar cell manufacturing facility will be located in Albuquerque’s Mesa del Sol industrial development area.
“The choice of Albuquerque for our investment aligns with our commitment to sustainable innovation, and New Mexico offers abundant solar resources, favorable renewable energy policies, and a dedicated, skilled workforce. These factors enhance Ebon Solar’s capital investment and production capabilities and make the City of Albuquerque, Bernalillo County, and the State of New Mexico ideal partners as we integrate into the clean energy market,” Ebon Solar CEO Judy Cai said in the news release.
Maxeon Solar Technologies announced a year ago that it had picked Mesa Del Sol for its facility. Albuquerque Mayor Keller said Albuquerque will be a national leader in clean energy. “Literally there is a very high likelihood that within months we are going to be the capital of solar manufacturing in America. That might sound like an exaggeration but the amazing thing it’s not, it’s true. Right now, no one manufactures solar panels in America and to have them start and have that hub here in Albuquerque New Mexico, truly will define us for a generation to come,” said Mayor Keller.
Groundbreaking for both facilities is likely to happen later this year.
