University officials said Jula is a 2-year-old German shepherd from Poland who specializes in explosives detection.
They said Jula is the first K-9 to join the force in the Southeastern UPD’s new K-9 Division.
Jula will work alongside Sergeant Michelle Blanchard, who attended a certification course in Texas.
Southeastern leaders said Jula will continue training in areas including safety sweeps for special events, sporting events and emergency situations.
“Jula will be a great ambassador of safety, student support and officer training and development,” said Southeastern President William Wainwright.
