Southern Door County School District names its new superintendent
BRUSSELS - The Southern Door County School District named Kevin Krutzik as its new superintendent during a school board meeting Monday night.
Krutzik comes to Southern Door from Sheboygan Falls High School, where he has been principal since 2018. During his time as principal, the high school achieved the top school report card score in the Eastern Wisconsin Athletic Conference from the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction four out of those five years.
Effective July 1, Krutzik is replacing Tony Klaubauf, who served as interim superintendent this past school year after Chris Peterson resigned from the post in June. Peterson, who was in his second year as Southern Door superintendent, was placed on administrative leave in mid-March by the board for unspecified reasons.
Krutzik was chosen over two other finalists considered by the school board: Brent Johnson, principal of Thomas Jefferson Elementary School in the Wausau School District, and Marc Vandenhouten, principal of Southern Door Elementary School. They took part in a final round of interviews during a special school board meeting a week before the decision was reached at Monday's regular meeting.
Twenty candidates applied for the position, and the board chose six for an initial round of interviews before narrowing the field to the three finalists.
"We are fortunate to hire Dr. Kevin Krutzik, an experienced leader with innovative ideas and proven strengths that will heighten the educational experience of our students, staff, and stakeholders," board president Penny Price said in a news release. "… (Krutzik) has the skill set and attitude to take on challenges that our school community is facing while embracing the incredible opportunities that already exist."
Prior to his time at Sheboygan Falls, Krutzik served as assistant principal for Fond du Lac School High School, middle/high school principal at Oshkosh Lourdes Academy and business & information technology teacher and interim principal at Manitowoc Lincoln High School. His career in education spans 19 years.
Krutzik earned his Bachelor of Arts degree in marketing/business administration from Lakeland University in Sheboygan, a Master of Business Administration in leadership studies from Marquette University, a Master of Arts in administrative leadership from Silver Lake College in Manitowoc, and his Doctor of Education in educational leadership from Edgewood College in Madison.
"I am honored and humbled to be able to serve as the next superintendent of the Southern Door County School District," Krutzik said in the news release. "I am excited to collaborate with the students, staff, Board of Education, families and the community to continue the district's ability to provide excellent educational opportunities for all students. I look forward to creating trusting relationships with all stakeholders and ensuring that we help each student reach their full potential."
