Communications Manager for the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office Lexi Bauer said Prosecutor Michael O’Malley does not believe he has ever met George but wants to avoid any appearance of conflict.
“Prosecutor O’Malley decided last week to appoint a Special Prosecutor to lead the investigation and bring whatever criminal charges may be appropriate,” Bauer said. “On August 21, Jefferson County Prosecutor Jane Hanlin was appointed to handle this matter. Prosecutor Hanlin has been the Jefferson County Prosecutor for 13 years and an Assistant Jefferson County Prosecutor for seven years prior. She is also the past President of the Ohio Prosecuting Attorney’s Association. “

Atty. Kevin Spellacy, who represents George, is critical of the Cleveland police investigation done on his client. He believes the charges should have never been filed and says George is innocent.
