St. Gabriel police officer arrested on domestic abuse charges fired

BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — A St. Gabriel police officer facing domestic abuse charges was fired after a department investigation found policy violations.

According to the St. Gabriel Police Department, Chief Kevin Ambeau Sr. told council members of his intentions to fire Officer Ronald Monroe in a council meeting on Thursday, August 15.

The police department said Monroe had been working with the department since March of 2023 and was assigned to the K-9 unit. Ambeau said several policy violations were found during a departmental investigation, including conduct unbecoming of an officer and failure to make full and truthful disclosures during the hiring process.

Monroe was arrested and charged with domestic abuse aggravated assault, domestic abuse battery and resisting an officer in Ascension Parish on Friday, July 26.
