St. Louis braces for heat wave, severe storm threat

ST. LOUIS — Hot temperatures continue through the weekend into the work week, with humidity and heat index values increasing Monday and Tuesday. Temperatures today will climb into the upper 90s.

Humidity remains somewhat stable, so expect heat indices to be near 100. The best chance for rain is tonight, when scattered storms that develop to our north drop south into our region ahead of a cold front.

Although we cannot rule out a few damaging wind gusts, the storms should be weakening as they approach, and the severe threat is minimal. Sunday’s highs will be a touch cooler behind the front, but they will still climb into the low 90s, with heat indices in the mid to upper 90s. Humidity increases Monday/Tuesday and our heat index values are expected to climb to around 105.
