St. Philip Neri Catholic Church and Kenner councilman remember Ed Daniels

KENNER, La. (WGNO) — Ed Daniels was a husband, father and storyteller.

“He will be remembered for being one of the best reporters that were ever in the New Orleans area,” said Kenner Councilman George Branigan.

A devout Catholic and parishioner at St. Phillip Neri Catholic Church in Metairie for many years. Pastor Father Andrew Ruddman says he’ll always be remembered for his strong faith.

“Dressed to the nines, in the choir singing loudly, praising the Lord. His faith was not just something that was a part of him. He actively pursued a relationship with Jesus Christ. Great singer,” said Rudmann.

New Orleans Saints and Pelicans remember Ed Daniels

For most, it was Friday Night Football with Ed. Branigan says what he accomplished for high school sports made a difference in young athletes’ lives.

“What he did for the high school athletes is unbelievable. When he talked to young athletes, they all felt included. Taking high school athletics and putting it on to the next level,” said Branigan.

He is a legend in his profession, but the love he showed for his family and his drive to learn something new is why he is so well admired.

“He had to be able to manage his time and he did. What he gave to us, but he gave so much more to his family. He will go down as one of the icons,” said Branigan.

KLFY Anchor George Faust speaks on Ed Daniels’ impact on high school sports

“One of the parts about Ed, that has always humbled me, is that here’s this guy who has so much knowledge, he’s on camera, and he’s in front of people all the time. Yet, he was always willing, something that I thought was always beautiful about him. He was willing to hear something new,” said Rudmann.

Passing away on Friday at 3 p.m. holds more meaning than people realize. Rudmann explains it’s what you’d call the hour of mercy.

“This is the moment Jesus Christ died on the cross. This is the time the Lord brought him home and I see such power in that. We have great hope that he is resting with the Lord now. That he is in heaven, and we pray we all can be reunited with him,” said Rudmann.
