Standing ovation for city workers after successful Humor and Harmony Weekend

SHREVEPORT, La. (KTAL/KMSS)—The four-day Humor and Harmony festival challenged the City of Shreveport to implement it successfully. From services to public safety and infrastructure, city officials said an event of this magnitude was no easy effort but was worth it.

The City Council met Monday to discuss the results.

Police Chief Wayne said no major crimes took place over the weekend. The festival brought in celebrities, businesses, and tourists from all over to see the city for the first time. Workers from every department were involved and applauds were given.

There was a standing ovation during Monday’s city council meeting for the workers who successfully made the Humor and Harmony Weekend a reality. The police and fire departments, city marshal, Caddo Parish Sheriff’s Office, Parks and Recreation, and Property Standards all acknowledged the work they put in to put Shreveport on the map.

“To see comments about people talking about Shreveport all over the country and world. We just thank you,” said Councilman James Green, District F.

Council members were elated to learn that no crimes took place during the make-or-break festival weekend.

“Amazing job to everybody. We know this was a team effort. I kept hearing, I felt safe, I felt safe. When people feel safe, they come out and spend money. It’s a win for everyone,” said Councilman Alan Jackson, District E.

Law enforcement told the council that a festival like this has never been done before in the city,
but they took it as a training opportunity for officers and coordination between agencies.

“This weekend was a testament when you put all these agencies together we have good results,” said James Jefferson, Shreveport City Marshal.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux said the city only had 90 days to pull off the big festival, but everyone worked hard to make it an accomplishment. So be ready to do it again.

“Mr. Jackson expressed his gratitude to the city and community of Shreveport. He is looking forward to planning something in the future … so stay tuned,” Arceneaux said.
