The meme features a picture of Ridley's character Rey, next to a speech bubble that reads: "I can't believe the unrealistic expectations I'm setting for young girls. Who cast me anyway? Don't they know real women have curves?"

In a now deleted post — which Ridley appears to have taken down after realising the person who posted the meme's username was visible — Ridley hit back at the image.

"'Real women' are all shapes and sizes, all ethnicities, all levels of brave, have families, don't have families," she wrote beneath the photo. "I am a 'real woman' like every other woman in this world."

Since deleting that post, Ridley has shared the following open letter.

You go, Daisy.
