State Board of Accounts investigating former Brownsburg Schools superintendent
The Indiana State Board of Accounts has launched an investigation into the Brownsburg School Corporation and its former Superintendent, Jim Snapp, agency and school district officials confirmed.
However, a spokesperson for the agency declined to provide any specifics of the investigation.
The State Board of Accounts, which is responsible for auditing school corporations on a two-year cycle, confirmed with IndyStar that the agency is conducting a "special investigation" into the Brownsburg Community School Corporation, but due to state law could not provide any more details on the investigation.
Brownsburg School Corporation officials told IndyStar that the investigation involves former superintendent Jim Snapp but declined to provide any further information in order “to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation.”
“The school corporation is fully cooperating in the matter,” said the Brownsburg School Corporation in an emailed statement.
President of the Brownsburg School Board Jessica Heffernan declined to answer any further questions.

Snapp said on Monday that no one has reached out to him to notify him of any investigation and that he was only made aware of it when IndyStar reached out for comment.
“However, like all Indiana public school corporations, Brownsburg Community Schools undergoes a comprehensive audit by the State Board of Accounts regularly and during my 14-year tenure as superintendent, all State Board of Accounts audits have found the school corporation to be in compliance,” Snapp said.
The State Board of Accounts posts all past audit reports for Indiana’s public school districts on its audit report database.

Earlier this year Snapp suddenly announced his retirement, after clashing with the board for several months over "administrative concerns" about his time as superintendent.
At the time, the school board gave no further explanation of what those concerns were with Snapp’s leadership.
