Stevie Wonder will 'fix our nation's broken heart' in Minneapolis next month

When major tours come through the Twin Cities, there are frequently many months if not a year from the announcement until the show arrives. (See: Metallica, Taylor Swift, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, et al.)

That's not the case for Stevie Wonder. On Thursday, the iconic musician announced a 10-date tour that starts on Oct. 8 and swings into Minneapolis on Oct. 27.

The "Superstition" singer, who recently appeared at the Democratic National Convention, will set up shop at the Target Center with his "Sing Your Song! As We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart" tour. While the tour title borrows from his new single, "Can We Fix Our Nation's Broken Heart," the election-season overtones aren't coincidental.

Wonder's tour looks like a list of campaign stops as he passes through Pennsylvania, Maryland, North Carolina, Georgia, Michigan, and Wisconsin. The aim is to encourage attendees to vote in November as he calls for "love over anger, kindness over recrimination, peace over war," he said in a statement.

Throughout the tour, Wonder's camp will set aside complimentary tickets for "those in our communities who are already working tirelessly to fix our nation's broken heart." Though, the announcement doesn't go into detail as to what that will look like in practice.

It will be a rare opportunity to see Wonder for Minnesotans. He last brought a tour to the Twin Cities in 2015, which was his first headlining show in decades. He also appeared at the 2016 tribute to Prince.

Tickets go on sale Thursday, Sept. 20 at noon.
