Stranger Things' Sadie Sink makes cryptic comment on Max's future

Stranger Things star Sadie Sink has made a cryptic comment about the future of her character, Max Mayfield.

The character was at the heart of the drama in the finale for the fourth season, with Vecna (Jamie Campbell Bower) killing her in the Upside Down. She was subsequently revived by Eleven (Millie Bobby Brown), but still left comatose as Hawkins came under attack.

With production currently underway on the fifth and final season, it remains to be seen how Max's arc will pan out, and Sink certainly kept hints to a minimum as she remained coy in an interview with Variety.

"They love having me run. That's all I'll say," she teased, with series creators The Duffer Brothers also remaining tight-lipped as they remarked: "She's going to play a part in the season. But we don't want to reveal how that's possible."

They did, however, tease Sink's performance in the upcoming season, praising her as they shared: "We did film a scene the other day with her that was just absolutely heartbreaking. I don't know how she hits those notes."

Whilst Sink is remaining quiet on the specifics, the actor, who joined the Netflix show in the second season, looked back on her time throughout the series, sharing her surprise at how Max was embraced by fans.

"I really didn't think people would care all that much about her journey. Still, I was kind of like, 'That's cool,'" she said. "I think I'm definitely numb to a lot of things now, which is a good thing. I think it keeps you stable.

"I've been working all of last week, and I'm like, 'Oh my God, I forgot how hard this show is.' You're a team player here. It's not about me [or] anyone. It's about the show and what's best for it."

Stranger Things seasons 1-4 are streaming on Netflix. A fifth and final season is in production. Stranger Things: The First Shadow is now booking until February 2025 at the Phoenix Theatre in London. Tickets are available now.
