Strictly Come Dancing has announced the 12th celebrity joining the 2024 series.

The BBC ballroom show is returning to screens in autumn, with a new line-up of celebrities hoping to impress the public with their dance skills.

Montell Douglas is the latest contestant to be announced, an Olympian who is also known for appearing as Fire in BBC's rebooted Gladiators show.

She joins EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick, Olympic swimmer Tom Dean, Coronation Street's Shayne Ward and Miranda actor Sarah Hadland, who were announced yesterday.

Other Strictly 2024 stars revealed so far include TOWIE's Pete Wick, Love Island's Tasha Ghouri, opera singer and Go Compare man Wynne Evans, '80s popstar Toyah Willcox, JLS boyband star JB Gill, comedian Chris McCausland and Morning Live's Dr Punam Krishan.

"Strictly, ARE YOU READY? Fire is here to light up the ballroom," Montell said in a press statement. "Wow, I am so honoured to have been asked to do the show.

"It is such an amazing thing to be a part of, and I can’t wait to get started. Hopefully a few of my Gladiator moves will come in handy with the Tango or Paso Doble!”

Montell was unveiled as one of 16 new Gladiators in the 2023 show of the same name, which aired on BBC One from January to March this year. She is set to reprise her role as Fire for the next series.

Prior to her Gladiators persona, Montell was an Olympic bobsledder and Team GB sprinter.

She represented Great Britain at the 2008 summer and 2022 winter Olympics, both held in Beijing.

In 2010, she won a gold medal in the 4x100m relay race at the 2010 Commonwealth Games in Delhi. Montell also once held the British woman’s record for the fastest 100m sprint.

Strictly Come Dancing will return later this year on BBC One, while spin-off Strictly: It Takes Two airs on weeknights on BBC Two. Both shows are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
