New study: Washing fruit doesn’t remove pesticides
(WJW) – Do you wash your fruit before you eat it? According to a new report from the American Chemical Society, washing your fruit doesn’t actually remove pesticides.
The ACS said the only way to avoid ingesting the chemicals is to peel the fruit.

According to the study, imaging technology was used on apples to find that the pesticides can penetrate the layers. So, if you wash it, you’re not getting all of the chemicals off.
The authors of the study said the goal is not to scare consumers, but to make sure they provide guidance on how to deal with pesticides on produce.

According to the Environmental Protection Agency, “When the pesticide residues are found on foods, they are nearly always at levels below the tolerance or maximum amount of a pesticide allowed to remain in or on a food.
According to the EPA, tolerance levels allowed for pesticides are routinely reviewed.
