Sue Barker appears to accidentally reveal Clare Balding will replace her at Wimbledon

Sue Barker has appeared to accidentally let slip that Clare Balding will replace her at Wimbledon.

The TV star, 66, had hosted the BBC's coverage of the tennis championships for 30 years but stepped down this year, saying that it had been "an “absolute privilege”.

So far there is no official word on who is taking over at the All England Club.

However, many suspect it could be Balding, who has presented highlights show Today At Wimbledon for a while.

Barker - who used to be a tennis champ herself - seemed to let the cat out of the bag as she appeared at the BT Sport Action Woman Awards.

She was presented with a lifetime achievement gong at the event, and afterwards appeared on stage with 51-year-old presenter Balding.

Barker mentioned Wimbledon and said that she had loved it all her life.

Then, according to reports, she followed up by saying: "I know I’m leaving it in the safest hands, it’s absolutely wonderful to leave it with Clare."

Barker announced in July that she was would no longer be fronting the tennis championship for the BBC.

"I knew it was going to be sad, I love the job, I love Wimbledon, it is in my DNA,” she said at the time.

“I love the people I work with even more but you just have to pick when the time is right to go and I just felt that I could walk out with my head held high having had 30 amazing years.”
