When is Super Tuesday? Here's what to know about the day that could shape the 2024 election
New Hampshire and Iowa were the first states to hold contests in the 2024 presidential election. Now millions of Americans in other areas will be heading to their polling places in March.
They'll vote on a day known as Super Tuesday, which received its nickname because it marks the date when the greatest number of states hold their primaries and caucuses.
The states conducting elections on 2024's Super Tuesday are Alabama, Arkansas, Alaska, California, Colorado, Maine, Massachusetts, Minnesota, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Vermont and Virginia.

Why does Super Tuesday matter?
For years, experts have pointed to Super Tuesday as a moment that can significantly shape the direction of a race. It has long had the potential to establish a breakout frontrunner.
Most Republican presidential hopefuls have been eyeing Super Tuesday states ahead of the primary season. For instance, former President Donald Trump made a stop to Alabama in August to speak at a Republican dinner, while Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis addressed over 1,500 GOP voters in Tennessee in July.
Candidates who dominate Super Tuesday don't always win the general election, however.
Former Republican Kansas Sen. Bob Dole won primaries in seven states on Super Tuesday in 1996, and Democratic Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry saw major victories in 2004. They both went on to lose the general election.
