Suspected gas explosion, fire leaves two hurt in Springfield
Update at 12:45 p.m.
The Springfield Fire Department is reporting that the fire on Enos Avenue has been extinguished and fire crews will clear the scene at 1:30 p.m.
Fire investigators will remain on site throughout the afternoon to complete their work.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WCIA) — First responders were dispatched to the scene of a suspected gas explosion at a home in Springfield Tuesday morning.
The explosion happened on Enos Avenue off of Dirksen Parkway just before 11 a.m. According to Sangamon County Sheriff Jack Campbell, when first responders arrived they saw the residence was fully engulfed in flames.
Two men lived in the home — a 64-year-old and a 71-year-old — who were both taken to a local hospital with injuries from the explosion. The Sheriff’s Office said they don’t believe their injuries are life threatening.
Officials said according to Deputies at the scene, the two men were working on a hot water heater when it happened. Ameren responded after they suspected natural gas was a factor.

Photos taken at the scene show the house was severely damaged by the explosion with fire still raging inside.
The Grandview Police Department also assisted. Officials continue to investigate.
