Sycamore Shoals Hospital evacuated 39 inpatients amid flooding

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) — Emergency crews evacuated 39 inpatients from Sycamore Shoals Hospital in Elizabethton amid catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene Friday.

According to the Elizabethton city government, several outside resources were headed to the city to assist as needed, including the Tennessee National Guard and swift water rescue teams.

Ballad Health announced that 39 inpatients were evacuated from the facility and all operations were suspended, except the emergency room. The Sycamore Shoals ER remains open for local incoming patients.

The hospital’s emergency room will remain open for local incoming patients.

The city said this is a serious situation, and all residents are asked to stay away from impacted areas.

Ballad asked that anyone who needs to go to a hospital go to the next closest one.
