Taron Egerton to lead cast of new Apple TV+ crime drama
Kingsman actor Taron Egerton will star in a new Apple TV+ crime drama.
As reported by TVLine, Egerton will appear alongside Lovecraft Country's Jurnee Smollett in Firebug, which will see the duo play an arson investigator and “a rising star detective” who pursue two serial arsonists.
It's "loosely" inspired by real-life cases involving the California arsonist John Leonard Orr, detailed in the podcast of the same name.
Dennis Lehane, who wrote for The Wire and Boardwalk Empire, is the series writer and will also be executive producer, alongside Egerton.

Egerton is soon to appear in Netflix series Carry-On as a young TSA who meets a mysterious traveller, played by Jason Bateman, who blackmails him into letting a dangerous package slip through security and on to a Christmas Day flight.
Meanwhile, during promotion for last year's Tetris movie, Egerton shared an update on the third Kingsman movie, provisionally titled Kingsman: The Blue Blood.
"[Vaughn] has every intention of making it, and I have every intention of playing Eggsy one more time," the Rocketman actor said.
"That was always what I thought I was committed to doing. It's the role that made my name, so I suppose, in a way, I just want it to be absolutely right if we do it again, and I want the story to do justice to the part that really changed my life."

"I want it to be a fitting ending. And I would, obviously, really hope that Colin [Firth] would come back for at least a part of it, and who knows?
"We'll have to see, but we are planning to talk about it, actually, the next time we see one another, so who knows? Watch this space. [...] [Vaughn is] certainly not backing off the idea."
