With Taylor Swift in mind, Colin Cowherd thought someone had broken into his Westerly house
Sports media personality Colin Cowherd, host of “The Herd” had a bit of a scare when returning to his Watch Hill home on Friday night.
In a clip of his podcast shared to TikTok, Cowherd said he was coming home at about 9:30 p.m. on Friday with his wife Ann when he encountered another car already in his driveway.
"I pull in behind the car, and I walk up to it with my phone, and I ask this young girl .... why are you here?" he said.
He said she told him she was wondering if the house was for sale, which he did not believe.
"And I'm like, well, I'm getting robbed," he said. At that point, he's speculating that maybe there is a boyfriend in the house already and thinking about the history of break-ins at the nearby house of Taylor Swift, so he decides to call the police.
"Well, the Westerly, R.I., police – fantastic. Three dudes, three cars ... they came flying down the street."
Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella said police responded to Cowherd's residence on Friday, Feb. 23 at 9:45 p.m.
"Officers arrived and spoke to all involved parties and determined, along with a mental health clinician, that the female party was not in need of immediate medical care but would be transported to another location and released to a family member," Gingerella said in a written statement. "The residence was checked along with the homeowner, and nothing appeared out of the ordinary. It appears that she never left her vehicle or entered the residence."
Cowherd said on his podcast that he thought the young girl may have been at his house thinking it was the home of Swift, who he said owns a home about "10 houses away" from his place. The Cowherds purchased their Watch Hill House for $8.5 million in August 2023, according to Boston.com. Called "Highland Lodge," the house was built in 1900 and sits on more than an acre, according to the real estate listing.
"Taylor Swift is the biggest star in the world, the biggest star. Beautiful, talented," he said. "This young lady had no idea who I was. I mean, she doesn't care."

"The fact that the largest pop star in the world is dating a star tight end who had one of his greatest games ever, and the network airs them, and that upsets you," Cowherd stated in a four-minute tirade. "What does that tell us about your life?"
Break-ins at Swift's Watch Hill House
Dubbed the “Holiday House,” the Watch Hill mansion was bought by Swift in 2013. As she rose to fame, break-ins have happened with some regularity despite security measures.
