Teachers could strike if Adam Smith isn’t appointed EBR Schools superintendent
BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) — The East Baton Rouge Association of Educators president says teachers will strike on the first day of school if Adam Smith isn’t appointed to the superintendent role.
According to Valencia Johnson, students and teachers wouldn’t report to schools on Aug. 8 if the strike happens.
Smith, the school system’s interim superintendent, was eliminated as a candidate in the school board members’ search after a June 28 vote.
“Those of us who truly have every school system’s best interest at heart know that this individual is Adam Smith,” President of East Baton Rouge Federation of Teachers Angela Reams-Brown said.
Teachers union representatives tried to urge school board members to change their vote on Monday, July 8 after finalist Krish Mohip dropped out over the weekend. The two other finalists are Andrea Zayas and Kevin George.
