Teen accused of injuring deputy while fleeing in stolen vehicle
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A Buffalo teen is facing several charges after he allegedly injured an Erie County Sheriff’s deputy while fleeing in a stolen vehicle Wednesday, the ECSO announced.
Deputies observed a BMW that was reported stolen out of Buffalo, which was allegedly being operated by 18-year-old Savveyon Izel, in the drive-thru of a McDonald’s on William Street around 3:10 p.m., according to officials.
While attempting to take Izel into custody, the teen allegedly reversed the BMW into an ECSO vehicle, injuring the deputy operating it, officials said. Izel also allegedly drove toward another deputy and nearly ran him over before fleeing. One round from a department-issued weapon was fired by ECSO personnel during the incident, according to officials.
The alleged stolen BMW was located a short time later on Sweet Avenue.
Izel was charged with the following:
Assault on a peace officer, police officer, fireman or EMT
Attempted assault on a peace officer, police officer, fireman or EMT
First-degree reckless endangerment
Two counts of second-degree criminal mischief
First-degree unauthorized use of a vehicle
Third-degree criminal possession of stolen property
Fourth-degree criminal possession of stolen property
Resisting arrest
Second-degree obstructing governmental administration
Multiple vehicle and traffic law violations
Izel is being held at the Erie County Holding Center ahead of his arraignment.
