Teen arrested for driving 137 mph on I-5 in Portland

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A 19-year-old man was arrested for allegedly driving 137 mph on I-5 in Northeast Portland on July 23.

The Portland Police Bureau said that Rolando Mendoza was clocked at the deadly speed while driving southbound on I-5 between Alberta Street and Columbia Boulevard at 8:21 p.m. Police seized Mendoza’s yellow muscle car and he was booked into the Multnomah County jail for reckless driving and attempting to elude police by vehicle — a class C felony.

“137 mph is definitely not okay,” PPB shared on social media Wednesday. “Great work by Traffic Officers.”

Oregon is currently the top wildfire priority in the U.S.

Mendoza has since been released from jail. PPB said that his traffic citations for the arrest totaled $2,500.
