Tennis courts at Iroquois Park close indefinitely. What's going in the space?
Project: Iroquois Park sports complex courts
Location: 1000 Amphitheater Road
Description: Louisville Parks and Recreation has closed the six tennis courts at Iroquois Park indefinitely to turn them into four pickleball courts, two new tennis courts and a futsal court.
The basketball courts that are near the tennis courts will not be closed, but "Louisville Parks and Recreation is looking into the possibility of also upgrading those courts as part of this project," according to a release from the agency.
Renovations are expected to be done by spring of next year, officials said.
"We hope to expand the recreational opportunities for all people who visit the park,” Interim Director Ozzy Gibson said.
What's being replaced: The existing six tennis courts will be renovated and converted into the new ones, spokesperson Katey Huffman said.
Cost: The department and the Olmsted Parks Conservancy had in-person meetings and hosted an online survey "after it was announced $500,000 would be included in the FY 2024 budget for improvements.," a release from Louisville Parks and Recreation stated. The funds come from the American Rescue Plan.
Size: "The renovations will be within the existing footprint of the tennis courts, approximately 0.5 acres," Huffman said.
Contractor: Tennis Technologies Inc., according to the release from Louisville Parks and Recreation.
