‘Terrifying situation’

Sisters Jennifer Sobolewski and Sally Carter said they were having dinner at the Blue Moon when they heard a commotion outside. Then, about a half-hour later, they heard someone yelling to get down, get away from the windows and move to the back of the restaurant.

“At the same time I’m hearing this pop-pop-pop,” Sobolewski said. Carter added, “Everyone ducked down and went toward the back” in a back hallway. After a few minutes, they were told police were outside at the scene.

“The folks at Blue Moon were awesome, they were amazing,” Sobolewski said. “Unfortunately my car is parked on the street right where some of the bullet casings are.”

She said she would come back later to get her car.

Carter said her heart was pounding as the incident unfolded, “not knowing if you’re going to hear more. … Just wanted to know everyone (I was with) was safe.”

“It’s just a terrifying situation,” said Sobolewski who added she lives in a “rural small town.” They had been talking before they came whether it would be safe in the area.
