Third arrest made in connection with MLK Park assault of high schooler

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — A third arrest has been made in connection with an assault last week that left a East Community high school student severely injured, the Buffalo Police Department announced.

Around 3 p.m. on Oct. 29, a 15-year-old student was punched, kicked and stomped on by several seniors at Martin Luther King Jr. Park. He was taken to the ICU at Oishei Children’s Hospital and treated for brain bleeds, swelling and a broken clavicle.

The student’s family said the attack was over a music video and a cellphone and that the injuries will likely affect him for the rest of his life.

A 16-year-old was initially arrested and charged with first-degree gang assault on Oct. 30. He was arraigned the morning of Nov. 4 and is scheduled to return to court Nov. 7. A temporary order of protection was issued on behalf of the victim.

On Nov. 1, a 17-year-old suspect turned himself in.

Another 17-year-old male turned himself in to detectives the morning of Nov. 4, police announced. The investigation remains ongoing.
