Three more restaurants close in Westchester, Rockland

Restaurant closures in Westchester and Rockland continue to pile up with three more to add to the growing list. For each closing, the reasons why vary— though lease issues are often at the top of the list.

That was partly the case with Town Dock, which recently closed in Rye after almost 27 years, Rye House in Port Chester, closed after a decade and Francesco's which has been on Mamaroneck Avenue in White Plains for more than 50 years. And now...

The Greek-ish, Harrison and Nyack

Owner/Chef Constantine Kalandranis closed The Greek-ish, at 273 Halstead Avenue in Harrison, due to a lease issue. He had been there eight years.

The Mediterranean(ish) restaurant closed in February.

In Nyack, the closure, which occurred in March, was more about Kalandranis' desire to focus on his food truck, The Taco-ish (at Stokes Farm in Old Tappan, N.J.) as well as his new(ish) snack bars at the House of Sports in Ardsley and Westchester Skating Academy in Elmsford, where he sells a variety of salads, bowls, snacks and more.

Kalandranis has had a restaurant at 8 North Broadway in Nyack when it previously had been called 8 North Broadway. He doesn't rule out another concept in that space so stay tuned.

Fortina, Yonkers

After pushing through COVID and "quite possibly the worst time in history for restaurants," Samantha Melisi director of operations for Fortina, said the company could no longer sustain its Yonkers location. Signage on the door says "Closed for repairs" but she confirmed the location is, indeed, permanently closed.

Their locations in Rye Brook, Armonk and Stamford, Conn. remain open. Melisi made a point of thanking their loyal customers, dedicated staff, Simone Development and "everyone who has been a part of our journey in this location."
