Tonawanda to install four-way stop where teen was killed
BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) — The Town of Tonawanda will install a four-way stop an an intersection where a teenager was hit and killed earlier this year.
The four-way stop will be at the intersection of Woodstock Avenue and Yorkshire Road.
In July, 15-year-old Luke Guetti was hit and killed by a car while riding a motorized bike while trying to cross the street at that intersection. The driver of the vehicle was found to be not at fault and was not charged nor ticketed.
Town Supervisor Joe Emminger told WIVB News 4 that a traffic study showed that the intersection should not qualify to be a four-way stop, but following the accident, residents pleaded with the town to make the area safer.
“We will hold the hearing then there will be a vote after that whether we are going to go forward with the four-way all way stop or now but at this time we are looking at putting in the four-way all way stop,” Emminger said.
A public hearing is scheduled to be held on Oct. 7, and then the installation of the signs would be adopted at later meetings.
