ELYRIA, Ohio (WJW) — In what Elyria Police describe as a “tragic accident,” a 9-year-old boy riding his bike was killed Saturday when he was hit by a jeep.
Man found ‘badly decomposed’ at abandoned Ohio car wash identified
Officers were called to the 100 block of Burns Rd. just before 6 p.m., according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. The initial investigation indicates the driver of the jeep attempted to drive around two boys who were riding their bikes in the road.
Police said the boys, ages 9 and 10, changed direction and collided with the jeep.
First responders treated the boys for serious, life-threatening injuries. The 9-year-old died at the scene, and the 10-year-old was taken to University Hospital – Elyria Medical Center and then airlifted to UH Rainbows and Babies Children’s Hospital.
No charges have been filed, and alcohol and drugs do not appear to be a factor at this time, police said.
