Operation Livesaver Inc. is a nonprofit advocating for railway safety.
The organization advises driver to never drive under a lowering or lowered gate, noting it’s illegal and can be dangerous. At a highway crossing, never cross the tracks unless you’re sure you can drive across without stopping.
If a vehicle is stuck on the tracks, OLI says to leave the vehicle and get away from the tracks. Find an emergency notification system sign and call for help to tell them about the stalled vehicle.
At a multiple-track crossing, Operation Lifesaver advises waiting for the train to cross and checking both ways for a second train.
This is a developing story.
