Travel guide says this Brunswick beach town is one of the country's best
A Brunswick County spot made a travel guide's list of the nation's best beach towns.
TripSavvy has named Sunset Beach fourth among the country's 18 best beaches. According to TripSavvy, Sunset Beach is renowned for its picturesque coastline and dreamy sunsets.
It rated towns not just on their beaches but a variety of factors, including shopping, dining and entertainment as well as nearby attractions such as historic lighthouses and nature preserves.

As for Sunset Beach, it highlighted the Bird Island Reserve, a 1,200-plus-acre barrier island, which features crystal clear shorelines and towering dunes. On Bird Island Reserve, visitors can stroll along the shore to visit the Kindred Spirit mailbox, where they can write down their thoughts, stories and dreams.
The travel guide also noted The Boat Landing Restaurant, a casual upscale waterfront dining spot. Visitors can enjoy staples such as po’ boys, fried oysters and crab dip.

The town is also home to Ingram Planetarium and a museum and gift shop for the old one-lane swing bridge, which was replaced by a two-lane span in 2010.
Sunset Beach is one of three North Carolina beach towns to make the list. Emerald Isle came in 10th and Nags Head 15th. South Carolina beaches Daufuskie Island (second) and Myrtle Beach (ninth) also made the cut.
Gulf Shores in Alabama led the list.
