TriMet rider hospitalized after MAX train collides with car in Gresham

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) – A crash between a TriMet MAX train and a car in Gresham left one rider hospitalized and the driver of the vehicle possibly injured early Wednesday afternoon, according to TriMet officials.

The crash took place near the Ruby Junction/E 197th Avenue MAX Station on E Burnside Street around 1:20 p.m. The cause of the crash, however, remains unknown.

“Our thoughts are with the people affected, especially those who may have been hurt,” TriMet said in a statement. “We’re all hoping for the best and wishing them a swift recovery.”

Officials initially said shuttle buses would serve those riding the Blue Line between E 172nd Avenue and Civic Drive until further notice. However, an update by TriMet at 2:46 p.m. said MAX Blue Line services were resuming after the crash. Riders are still advised to expect up to 15-minute delays through 3:15 p.m.
